England all-rounder Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of action for the rest of this season owing to a stress fracture in his lower back. The hosts who have already secured the Ashes 3-0 will be forced to bring in a replacement for Tim Bresnan. Chris Tremlett and Graham Onions stand a chance to play in Bresnan’s place in the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval which begins on the 21st.

This is the second major setback for the 28-year-old Bresnan in 2013. Earlier in the year, the Yorkshire all-rounder was sidelined with an elbow injury. Bresnan has so far played 21 Tests, 76 ODIs and 25 T20Is with decent success. At one point of time, the strongly built all-rounder was considered as a lucky charm for England as his first 13 Tests resulted in victories.

Bresnan played a key role in England’s victory in the Fourth Test at Chester-le-Street. The fast medium bowler produced a magic delivery to get rid of a dangerous David Warner in Australia’s run chase of 299 – a turning point that brought England back in the contest.
