Colin de Grandhomme created history on the second day of the first Test against Pakistan at Christchurch, becoming the bowler with the best Test debut figures by a New Zealander. Grandhomme finished the first innings with figures of 6 for 41 in 15.5 overs as Pakistan were bowled out for a disappointing 133. New Zealand responded with 104 for 3 to take control of the Test. Alex Moir’s 6 for 155 was the previous best by a Kiwi bowler on debut. Here’s a look at New Zealanders who have taken a five-for in their first Test.

Colin de Grandhomme: He claimed 6 for 41 against Pakistan at Christchurch in the ongoing Test. Grandhomme dismissals in the Test included Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq.

Fen Cresswell: He picked up 6 for 168 from 41.2 overs in the 4th Test of the series against England at Oval in August 1949. Cresswell’s effort came in England’s first innings, as they responded to New Zealand’s score of 345. Cresswall dismissed Len Hutton, but not before he had made 206. His other victims were Bill Edrich for 100 and Reg Simpson for 68. England made 482, and the match ended in a draw.

Alex Moir: He claimed 6 for 155 against England during the 1st Test of the series at Christchurch in March 1951. Moir bowled 56.3 overs for his scalps as England responded with 550 to Kiwis’ 417. Moir dismissed Hutton for 28, Simpson for 81, Godfrey Evans for 19 and Alec Bedser for 5. For New Zealand, Bert Sutcliffe had made 116 as the game was drawn.

Bruce Taylor: He picked up 5 for 86 in 23.5 overs against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in March 1965. New Zealand batted first and posted 462 courtesy a ton from Sutcliffe and Taylor himself. He then played a key role in keeping India down to 380. He dismissed Pataudi Jr for 153, Farokh Engineer, Chandu Borde and Bapu Nadkarni for a duck. India managed to hold on to a draw.

Paul Wiseman: He claimed 5 for 82 against Sri Lanka at Colombo in 1998 in the first Test of the series, to bowl the visitors to a memorable win. New Zealand were defending 465 in the last innings, and Wiseman dismissed the big three -- Sanath Jayasuriya, Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene as Sri Lanka folded up for 297. Stephen Fleming was another hero of the game with an unbeaten 174.

Mark Gillespie: He picked up 5 for 136 against South Africa at Centurion in November 2007. Gillespie dismissed Jacques Kallis for 131, Ashwell Prince, AB de Villiers and Mark Boucher, but South Africa responded with 383 to Kiwis’ 188, and won the Test by an innings and 59 runs.

Tim Southee: The Kiwi fast bowler claimed 5 for 55 against England at Napier in March 2008. Southee sent back Kevin Pietersen for 129, Andrew Strauss for a duck and Michael Vaughan for 2. Ryan Sidebottom however claimed a seven-for as England won by 121 runs.

Doug Bracewell: He claimed 5 for 85 against Zimbabwe at Harare in November 2011. The performance came in the fourth innings as New Zealand were defending 366. Bracewell dismissed Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza and ran through the tail as a spirited Zimbabwe were held back to 331.
