India’s batting prowess came to the fore at Pune on Sunday as they gunned down a target of 351. Here are interesting stats from the high-scoring match.

Kedar Jadhav hit a hundred from merely 65 balls. This is the sixth fastest by an Indian in ODIs. The fastest remains by Virat Kohli, who got to one in 52 balls. Jadhav has now crossed fifty twice in nine innings, and both times he has converted those into hundreds.

Kohli and Jadhav added exactly 200 for the fifth wicket in 147 balls at a strike rate of 8.16 on Sunday. This is the fourth quickest double century partnership in one-dayers, and only the fifth double hundred partnership for the fifth wicket in one-dayers.

Rather surprisingly, Jadhav outscored Kohli in his partnership with the captain. He scored 102 from 67 balls at a strike rate of 152.23 in the company of Kohli. The skipper himself hit 95 from 80 at a strike rate of 106.74.

Kohli’s hundred on Sunday was his 15th in successful chases in one-dayers. He now holds the record for most hundreds in successful chases, overtaking Tendulkar who had 14. Further, Kohli also equalled Tendulkar’s record of having scored 17 tons in chases. While the current Indian skipper has reached the landmark in 96 innings, Tendulkar took 232.

This was the sixth time that a target of 350 or more has been chased down in one-dayers. Incredibly, India have now done so on three occasions. Apart from Sunday’s encounter against England, they chased down 360 and 351 against Australia in Jaipur and Nagpur respectively, both during the 2013-14 series. Incredibly, Kohli has scored tons in all of those chases.

Kohli is clearly a chasing specialist. India have chased down 300 or more eight times since the Indian skipper’s debut, and Kohli has scored hundreds in six of those. The two games where he missed out were -- against New Zealand in Bangalore in 2010, and versus Australia at SCG in 2016.

England 350 for 7 at Pune is now their best ODI total against India. The previous best was 338 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore during the 2011 World Cup tied game.

Ben Stokes reached his fifty in 33 balls during the match. This is now the fastest by an Englishman against India. Andrew Flintoff and Owais Shah held the previous record, having got to fifty in 35 balls each. Incidentally, Jason Roy reached a fifty off 36 balls in the same match, which is the joint fourth-fastest fifty for England against India.

England blasted 105 runs in the last eight overs of the innings to go from 245 for 5 to 350 for 7. Their previous best against India during this period was 90 at The Oval in 2007.

England have crossed 350 in one-dayers seven times since their shock exit from the 2015 World Cup. Before that, they had done so only twice.

This was the first time Jasprit Bumrah finished with an economy rate of more than six an over in ODIs. He hadn’t been taken for so many in eight matches before.
